I have several of the books in this series of Christmas short stories and love them all. It's useful for me to listen to the sound of the language, something that no dictionary or book can do. Much of what is covered is common sense and other items might not occur to us unless we had experience some of these disasters.Spending most of my life in California, I was particularly interested in the earthquake info.If you have a dog or cat, also notice what they do when an earthquake is coming. This is a treasure for any Dylan addict. In no way has this influenced my review. The author could have just, for consistency sake, mentioned the aliases and then just stuck with one name for each person as opposed to using them interchangeably.The author also apparently has something against using quotation marks and/ or mentioning who is actually speaking. I typically I don't read this genre, but I enjoyed this book. Each was relevant and historically timely, providing glimpses of where a typical consumer has likely already been using the tools. It would be a great gift at Christmas, and my wife and kids have enjoyed looking through it for recipe ideas. For example, in the section on food, they give a recipe for Egyptian bread and when cooked it is okay, not my type of bread. I understand the cathartic effect this must have had on the author, which is what made this such an interesting read, but as an outs. Copyright 1992 Reed Business Information, Inc.
